Q: Why Kashi Vishwanath temple is famous? A: The Kashi Vishwanath temple is widely recognized as one of the most important places of worship in the Hindu religion. Inside the Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the Jyotirlinga of Shiva, Vishveshvara or Vishvanath. The Vishveshvara Jyotirlinga has a very special and unique significance in the spiritual history of India.
Q: Can we touch shivling in Kashi Vishwanath temple? A: Certainly YES, but only , immediately after the Mangla aarti at 3 am and evening aarti which is between 6 to 7 pm, and u have to buy tickets for the aarti's... immediately thereafter all ticket holders can actually touch as well as garland The Lord ( Shivlinga ) ....
Q: What is the story behind Kashi? A: Kashi is one of the oldest cities in the world. Its name is mentioned in the Rig Veda, where it's called a moksha nagri, for it is believed that whosoever dies in Kashi attains immediate salvation. Therefore, Hindu believers in their old age prefer to surrender their life to God at Kashi.
Q: What is the best time to visit Kashi? A: The best time to visit Varanasi is during the winter months (November to February). Although it gets fairly cold during the winters, this is the best time when you can explore the holy city without getting tired. The average low temperature is around 5°C.
Q: Why did Shiva left Kashi? A: Under his reign, his subjects prospered and justice flourished. As time passed, Lord Shiva desired to again come back to his own city. But due to Brahma's boon to Divodasa, he was unable to set feet in Kashi. Soon Lord Shiva came to know that other gods too are unable to stay in his city.
